Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act

The Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLB) prohibits "pretexting," the use of false pretenses, including making fraudulent statements and using impersonation, to obtain consumers' personal financial information, such as bank balances, or account numbers. This law also prohibits the knowing solicitation of others to engage in pretexting.

There are many LEGAL ways to obtain this same information without breaking the law. IPG LLC does not use pretexting to obtain financial records.

Some legal ways of doing bank account searches would be:

Confiscating the subject’s garbage once it has been put on the curb for the garbage truck, then finding discarded mail from their bank in the garbage. Following the subject on a Friday afternoon from work to their bank and watch them deposit their paycheck. Following the subject into Wal-Mart and watch them use their Bank debit card, then surf the information from their visa debit card. Credit reports often give you very important clues as to where your subject banks at.

Whenever you fill out a credit application with a car dealership, or department store the application always asks for the name of your bank and account numbers. This data is retained and stored in many places that are perfectly legal to access without pretexting. These are just a few of the hundreds of legal ways to obtain a consumer's banking information.

When Congress wrote the GLB act, they did not make it illegal to sell a consumer's banking information. GLB simply makes it illegal to use pretexting, misrepresentation, or impersonation to gather a consumer's banking information. IPG LLC does not engage in any illegal practices to gather information for any of our asset search products.
